PRESIDENTS MESSAGE May Newsletter
Welcome to May. As the old saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers." It is indeed nice to see a full
recharge in grass color, new tree leaves, flowers both wild and garden varieties. Birds are returning
from southerly winter habitats to fill the air with their songs. Spring is a great time.
At the Izaak Walton League (Marshall Co Chapter, Marshalltown and vicinity), grounds keepers have helped
get the area ready for activities. The first of which is a May 3rd Clay Bird Shoot. It will be ten stations and 100
birds, a typical round of practice after a weary winter.
At the April Ikes meeting, six candidates for our Scholarship Award were reviewed. Four of those made the
grade and have been notified of a successful grant. At a future meeting, most likely in August, the
approved candidates will be invited to come to our meeting to receive their check made out to their
college/university in their behalf. Ike’s members will learn of their interests and we can be helpful to lend
encouragement to these young people as they progress through the academic world.
And lastly, to all Ikes members, do consider offering your time if able and willing, to become active on the
Board of Directors. They review grounds and undertake other conservation programs. Thanks for your help.

CLEANUP DAY THANK YOU
Thanks go out to cleanup day volunteers Mark Dolash, Ed Moore, Chuck Strobbe, Dwight McDonald,
Doug Randall, Luke McKibben, Scott Peters, Shannon Logan and Bob Backes
They made racks to hold sporting clay equipment for the new trailer: rearranged the shed by the Christmas
trees and moved clay birds from the storage building to this shed; cut and treated some of the brush on the
dam and roadway; rearranged things in our storage building.
CHAPTER NEEDS - Board Members
We need members willing to serve on our Board of Directors. We need younger board members and people
that can bring some new ideas for our chapter. I think all but two of our current board members are over the
age of 70. If you’re interested please contact us. You can reply to this email or contact Garry Brandenburg at

UPCOMING EVENTS
BOARD MEETING: Wednesday MAY 13, 6:00 PM at the Izaak Walton League Clubhouse.
SPORTING CLAY SHOOT: Sunday May 3rd at our Izaak Walton League.
Registration will be from 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM. Shooting will begin at 9:00 AM.
$40.00 for 100 targets. Kids 16 and under shoot one round for $10.00 if accompanied by a paid adult.

HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS - IOWA DNR CERTIFIED
Thursday June 18th 6:00-9:00 PM and Saturday June 20th 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Ikes Club house.
Must attend both days to receive the certificate of completion.
